An entire day dedicated to discovering Zanzibar landscapes, traditions and nature on board a “dhow”, the typical local sailing boat. You will be surrounded by amazing colours, fragrances and tastes and during lunch, you will try some great local dishes while enjoying the unspoiled natural surroundings.
Jozani Forest and butterflies
By bus, you will reach the Jozani natural reserve, approximately 3,000 hectares, covered with thousand-year-old eucalyptus trees, laurel, giant palm and oil palm trees. It is also the only place in the world where red colobus monkeys live; you will be able to watch these curious little red-backed animals rest, eat and play on the tree branches above you. You will then witness the fantastic and colourful butterfly display at the “Butterfly Centre”.
Zanzibar is the island of spices as so many different varieties grow on this island. Half a day spent discovering the plantations immersed among the fragrances and colours of Zanzibar’s vegetation. You will learn about the healing properties of plants such as cinnamon, nutmeg, cardamom, chilly, ginger, vanilla, cocoa and plenty of others!
A tour of the town that witnessed Zanzibar’s fortune, from the slave trade to the capital city of the Sultan of Omam, surrounded by the fragrances of the market, its charming narrow roads, the beautiful doorways and the small local artisan shops. If the tour is organised in the afternoon, you can decide to stop for an aperitif (not included in the price) and enjoy the spectacular sunset on the terrace of the African House. During the walk, you can admire the Palace of Wonders, the Arab fortress and the house of Freddy Mercury from the outside (visits inside cannot be arranged).
After visiting the island’s giant tortoise reserve and the ruins of the old prisons, you will reach the famous strip of sand known as “Pange”, on board a traditional “dhow” sailing boat. On the beautiful atoll you will have time for snorkelling and enjoy a walk or relax in the sun. Lunch will be a tasty buffet of traditional Swahili dishes.
